With ~3,500 Medical Interns starting their professional careers over the past two weeks, there are equal parts nerves, excitement and trepidation.
For 83 Hospitals across Australia and New Zealand, their Interns will have an additional support layer provided by Med App and the excellent Medical Education and Admin teams at each facility.
Live stats from registration and engagement from across our sites show a 98% registration rate and 90% engagement rate for all communications.
One site supported by Med App is the Prince of Wales Hospital (PoWH). PoWH is a part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District in New South Wales. Feedback from many of the 56 Interns has been positive.
‘I’ll definitely be jumping into Med App to help me through the first run of nights, I’m definitely nervous about that’
‘It’s handy having the consult guide ready to discuss patients with other teams’
‘Such an easy app to get up and running…so well designed.’
PoWH Intern discussion
There is a big focus at PoWH on building community and engagement this year. From running additional events for Interns, Career days and access to well-being resources, and support services like the Mayo Clinic Wellbeing Index.
One initiative driven through Med App will be the regular updating of ‘Term Rovers’ (rolling term handover documents) – aimed at making it as easy as possible for the incoming intern to survive and thrive on their next rotation.
The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital
Interns starting at the RBWH have worked in groups to complete a self-guided hospital tour, looking for Med App-generated QR codes. The exercise is a great way to get familiar with the campus and build rapport and relationships with other Interns.
Congratulations to all of the new Interns across the country. Well done to all the hard-working education teams making the transition to professional work as unique and personalised as possible.
